Okay, I mentioned that we were talking about moving to the States...we are at a bit of a crossroads with James' businesses right now. There is an opportunity to take them in a new direction...as well, there is a buyout offer on the table. Right now, if things can be negotiated to our liking, we want to stay here. But if not, then we are equally happy to take the payout and move. However, to uproot my family and move to another country - one that I enjoy visiting but that isn't my home, the country of my heart, then certain conditions have to be met. They are:
1. A housing gain: I want to be able to buy the house of my dreams, with no renovations required, for less than what I can sell my house here. And this can be done in lots of places...just not anywhere along the West Coast.
2. A temple in under an hour's drive. With a good church presence in the neighbourhood.
3. No more snow. No winter. Sunny skies.
Is that too much to ask?

You forgot one important pro for moving to the states...TARGET! (I'm still not over the fact that you don't have one near) And if you find the place that meets all your criteria (Texas doesn't count), let me know ;)
Your family is at the perfect age for an adventure. And the opprotunity to make some changes and stir things up keeps everyone sharp and on their toes. There is something really quite exceptional about how the Americans do high school. And what I am discovering is that little is relegated to "forever". Canada isn't going away soon. Though one has only to go to Wal-mart to discover how much it is changing - not just all the US influences but the workforce is decidedly transplanted from exotic hotter albeit troubled regions of the world. According to your criteria Phoenix qualifies. Vegas qualifies.
The Bay Area qualifies on all requirements except #1. Bummer. The weather and shopping (not to mention the incredible company) can't be beat, though! The church in our area is really strong with great youth programs and the schools are top notch...you just have to pay A TON for housing. OH, i'm just getting giddy thinking about the possibility of having you guys close by - even if it is a long shot!
Janine, Williamson County, TN fits the bill. You've got a temple, great schools (public and private), LOTS of youth, good weather... well,OK weather- HOT summers, but you can't beat the cost of living! While it's not west coast it's BEAUTIFUL as well. Really nice people too. Plus, Dollywood is within 3 hours! Hello!
Really no more snow...well that leaves out Montana. Don't go to far away because then who will I visit. When will you guys know what you are doing?
